Dolly Parton’s Signature Look Was Inspired by the Town Tramp

Happy Birthday to Dolly Parton! Today she’s 80 years old.

Dolly has always been one of a kind, but her iconic style didn’t just fall from the rhinestone-studded sky. A throwback interview is making the rounds online — and it’s pure gold.

Turns out, Dolly’s look was inspired by a woman from her childhood that her mother really didn’t want her looking up to.

“We didn’t go to town that much, but when I would, I would go to see her,” Dolly recalled, referring to a local woman she found absolutely mesmerizing. “She had these long red fingernails, wore bright lipstick, she had peroxide blonde hair, tight clothes, short… and I thought, she is the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.”

Her mom, however? Not so impressed. “My mother said, ‘Oh, she’s just trash. She’s just a tramp.’ And I thought, that’s what I want to be when I grow up,”

That bold, bedazzled look would go on to define her career — from big hair to even bigger personality — and inspire countless others along the way. Dolly has never shied away from her love of glam, once famously saying, “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.”

All these stories resurfacing for Dolly’s birthday are fun to watch. But this one hits differently — because it reminds us that the Queen of Country didn’t just break the mold, she chose a completely different one and ran with it in high heels.

And we’re all better for it.

Dolly Parton Sets the Record Straight: She’s Fine, Y’all!

Dolly Parton wants her fans to know that she’s not dying, thank you very much.

The country legend, 79, hopped online to calm everyone down after her sister Freida recently asked for prayers and accidentally sent the internet into a spiral of panic.

In a new video from the set of an upcoming Grand Ole Opry commercial, Dolly looked radiant as ever and made it clear she’s still got plenty of songs left to sing. “I know lately everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am,” she said with a laugh.

“Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here! Anyway, I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease, and I appreciate your prayers because I’m a person of faith.”

Dolly explained that she hasn’t been feeling her best, but it’s nothing dramatic. “When [my husband Carl] passed, I didn’t take care of myself,” she admitted. “So I let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of.” She added that she’s fine, though, and that her faith and fans’ love keep her going. “There are just a lot of rumors flying around, but I figured if you heard it from me, you’d know that I was okay. I don’t think God is through with me and I ain’t done working.”

Her rep confirmed that Dolly is in good health and just waiting for a procedure to deal with some kidney stones. Nothing more, nothing less.

As for Freida, she’s grateful fans rallied behind her sister but said she didn’t mean to alarm anyone. “Thank you all for lifting her up,” Freida wrote. “Your love truly makes a difference.”

So rest easy, Dolly fans. The Queen of Country isn’t going anywhere.

She’s still busy working, still cracking jokes, and still shining like rhinestones under a spotlight.

Check Out Sydney Sweeney Posing as Dolly Parton

Sydney Sweeney’s new movie Americana is now in theaters, and the marketing team might just deserve its own award. The movie’s turning heads with a series of retro posters that reimagine the cast as iconic country music legends.

Americana stars Sweeney as a young woman chasing her dream of country stardom, and to match that Nashville spirit, the promo campaign recreated classic country album covers—with the cast stepping into some very big boots.

Sweeney herself paid homage to none other than Dolly Parton, posing as the country queen on the 1974 Jolene album cover.

(Most men are bummed she wasn’t recreating Dolly’s Playboy cover.)

Halsey, who also stars in the film, took on the brooding cool of Johnny Cash, recreating the artwork from The Legend of Johnny Cash (2005). If you didn’t know better, you’d think it was a lost Cash promo photo.

Simon Rex stepped in for Chris Stapleton, channeling the vibe of From a Room: Volume 2. If the beard fits…

Zahn McClarnon and Paul Walter Hauser pulled double duty with dueling tributes to Willie Nelson. McClarnon posed for a modern take on Shotgun Willie, while Hauser gave us his version of Red Headed Stranger. Yes, red braids included.

And wrapping it all up, Eric Dane honored Dwight Yoakam with a cover inspired by This Time, the 1993 hit album that made tight jeans and heartbreak look effortless.

Americana is clearly embracing country culture—not just through its story, but in how it’s connecting with fans of the genre. These posters aren’t just clever marketing; they’re love letters to the artists who helped define country music’s look and feel.

If you’re a fan of old-school album art, you’ll probably like them. And if you’re a fan of Sydney Sweeney in a Dolly wig? Even better.

Dolly Parton Says She Eats This One Food Every Day

Despite being a music icon, a fashion legend, and a national treasure, Dolly Parton’s go-to comfort food proves she’s still very much one of us: potatoes.

Yup, the queen of country recently confessed during an appearance on the Today show that she eats potatoes every single day. “I have to have something with potatoes,” she said.

“I mean, I’m just one of those people that I have to either have a baked potato, some mashed potatoes, some french fries, or something to do with potatoes.”

Honestly? Relatable. Carbs are the great equalizer.

The 78-year-old superstar isn’t about complicated or flashy food either. She said she just looks for “good, hearty food”—the kind that sticks to your ribs and makes you feel at home. That philosophy shows up in her cooking too: Dolly’s line of frozen comfort meals is wildly popular, and her Southern-style cookbook is full of down-home classics.

Fans online didn’t need long to chime in with their approval.

Social media lit up with people praising her taste and, in some cases, proudly declaring themselves fellow “potato people.”

In a world of fad diets and celebrity detox teas, Dolly’s loyalty to mashed and fried spuds is refreshingly grounded.

So if your dinner plans tonight include fries, tots, or a buttery heap of mash, you’re in good company. Turns out Dolly Parton is right there with you.

(And if you want to eat like Dolly, you can check out her frozen meals or grab her cookbook that she wrote with her sister, Rachel. Just don’t skip the potatoes.)
